ABOUT REALMS OF CHAOS
The Realms of Chaos is a world wrought with abject horror and perilous struggle, futuristic machinery, along with mystical and chaotic powers. It contains epic struggles between ancient guardians of humanity and demonic forces from beyond the physical realm. To enter this world is to abandon all hope.
When playing RoC, you are participating in a dark and dangerous interactive story where players take on the roles of unique characters, called avatars. One player may serve as the Chaos Lord, a combination director, narrator and referee. The Chaos Lord’s role is to describe scenarios, ask the players what their characters want to do and then resolve these situations according to the rules of the game.
The Chaos Lord is responsible for controling all Non-Player Characters (NPC's); to include all monsters, demonic entities, robots and mortal humans. They control the weather and other environmental conditions and may determine the extent in which environmental conditions may affect a players actions.
BACKGROUND STORY
Since the dawn of mankind, a secret cult had been lurking in the shadows. Passed down from the powerful astronomer-priests in darken temples dedicated to the Babylonian god Marduk to the followers of Set throughout the deserts of Egypt. Even the monarchs of medieval Europe were whispered to meet in midnight orgies dedicated to dark lords.
It had been rumored throughout the 20th and 21st centuries that many world leaders had formed a secret alliance with corporate entities and world bankers to create a one world government. America, referred to as the New Babylon by religious doomsayers, was founded by members of this elite social club. Built upon the ideals of ancient gods who lie dead but dreaming, America would later awaken become the center of a terrible new empire.
War is hell, but war is necessary for the advancement of a one world government. By the year 2023 China joined forces with the Republic of Russia and North Korea to form a Northern Alliance with which to combat this impeding expansion. Two years later, North Korea launched its’ first nuclear-tipped missile towards the American capital in what became the 7 Day War.
In the aftermath of destruction, the sleeping giant lay broken, his body dismembered and the survivors eventually turned on each other for survival. Many cities burned to the ground as riots broke out across what was left of the former American empire. Some cities successfully barricaded themselves within their city walls to protect their townships from the surging violence all around them. Other cities were not so lucky.
Several years’ later the remnants of a lost civilization slowly began to piece itself back together. New governments were formed as local baronies seized control of smaller settlements and communities in an ever expanding struggle for power. Massive city-states formed from the remains of once thriving centers of industry and commerce. Territories were proclaimed in the name of re-imagined governments. A quick power move by the Mexican government expanded their territory to include the former states of New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, and Arizona in what is now known as the United Mexican Territories. Canada increased its’ provinces by colonizing along the Appalachian Barrier, which now keeps back the impeding forces of the Atlantic Ocean.
Now known as the Ocean of Atlantis, since the ice covered Antarctica has thawed to reveal the remains of a once lost civilization, the Atlantic covers most of the east coast from Quebec all the way down to Georgia. Further west, a republic was formed in an attempt to reclaim the once prosperous ideals of the former United States of America. The Republic of North America, centrally located in the Denver Enclave, consists of everything from Washington State all the way to Mississippi River and is governed by a council of delegates from each of the major self sustained city-states.
Eventually trade between the massive city-states and various settlements along the Great Valley increased as merchant caravans discovered the old Indian trails that traverse the entire mountain range. Predark trinkets and other valuable items scavenged from ghost towns of a once great nation were traded for food and other consumable merchandise along the Warpath. As factories and textiles reopened, new products trickled their way into the open market.
By 2107 major trade routes opened between the Pacific Nations of the Orient and the United States of Canada. This sparked the beginning of a new world market. Within the next 30 years the world economy reached new limits of commerce. A new spaceport was built atop the ruins of Roanoke, Virginia and flights resumed between the space-based Independence Transfer Hub and the earth-based Star City Spaceport. Things were starting to return to normal.
Over the years that followed, a darkness swept across the face of the earth bringing with it madness and chaos. As was writ in the fabled Book of the Worm the veil between the material realm and the realm of chaos became so thin that the blind fiends of chaos were no longer held at bay. For Millenium the Watchers have held the forces of darkness at bay at the Gates of Kurnugi, however, the sins of mankind have led them to uncover the Silver Key, which was hid amongst the race of man since the dawn of time. This key was used to unlock the Gates of Kurnugi and has allowed the abominations from the abyss to once again wreak havoc on the material realm
